I think they should be left alone.

Characters have histories here and it would be disrespectful to their creators to write them out completely. Some of them may have even spent weeks putting their characters together, and then to have some new person come along and simply "steal" their idea is wrong.

I would advise you don't open them up.

Keep things the way they are. This club has been fine the way it is. No need to change things.

I would say yes- but in the case of someone who is merely inactive, ask first before giving the element away. At least, thats how I think it should be.

I went through heck in a hampsterball coming up with an original element, so I'm kinda torn on this. I feel it would be a nice gesture, but I also feel that those applying should go through the same brain-strain I did, and that many other current members will feel jipped.

Honestly, I think they should be opened up if they are no longer in the club. If the person is merely inactive, check with them and find out if they even want to be in the club before giving their element away.

Why are you even trying to make this an open pole? It should be members only decision. Otherwise, all the potentials are going to say yes simply to better their chances.

c: I've got an awesome suggestion on this.

If the person is leaving the club they can offer permission for others to take their element.
If said person has no more interest in the series, their OC, or all that, they could offer the chance for others.

That way if it's an original element people put lots of effort into thinking up they get to keep it that way. Much like QueenMomi-chan said.
But if it's something simple they can just offer it up for grabs.
